Renovating Point State Park: A Gift for Pittsburgh’s 250th

Quality of Life

“…You can’t put a monetary value on public works that enhance the image and quality of life of a city. In so doing, they stand to draw huge numbers of city and suburban dwellers downtown to reclaim some of the communal urban experience that has been lost.”

Chicago Sun-Times, June 16, 2004: “New city jewel invites us downtown to play”

“A Park for all Pittsburgh”

Point State Park should be a park for all of Pittsburgh’s diverse communities—a place where people can come for a variety of reasons to experience the clean, healthy aspects of Pittsburgh’s urban life.

Accessibility

Thanks to the renovations, Point State Park will more than double the number of ADA-accessible portals, making the park an easy destination for everyone.

A new driveway off of Commonwealth Place will open the park up to school buses, so that every child in the region can come and experience Pittsburgh’s rich history first-hand.

Water landings will make it possible for water taxis to take people across the rivers to exciting destinations on the North Shore and Station Square.
